Gerunds and Infinitives 6th Session-Grammaring
Infinitives
Infinitives look like verbs, but they do not work as them. Infinitves are composed of the particle "to" + verb to go to study to visit to see
Uses of Infinitives
They work as nouns (when they answer to what?) I love to swim 1. When they work as nouns after the verb they are Direct Objects. She wants to go They exercise to have fun
Uses of Infinitives
2. When they are placed at the beginning of a sentece, they work as subjects: To swim is really fun. To visit my grandma is my favorite thing to do.

3. They work as "Subject Complements" when they are placed after the verb "to be" My goal is to write a novel. These books are to study grammar. His dream was to direct a film.

4. They work as complements for adjectives when they follow them (adjectives): I was afraid to go. We were disappointed to hear the news. They were upset to have to explain what happened.
