Last Saturday morning I bought a magazine, and sat down on a bench in the town centre to read it. People ______(walk) about and ______(do) their shopping. There was a group of four people near me - they ______ (stand ) together and laughing.
RULE: We use

• the Past Simple for an action that happened at a particular moment in the past. We often use when with this tense.
