SELMA

THE ROAD TO FREEDOM

Martin Luther King

«Life isn't worth living unless we're willing to die for those we love and what we believe in.»

In the film King arrives in Selma, Alabama, to fight for the right to vote for black people with two peaceful marches and tries to get to Montgomery, both of which are bloodily repressed by the police.

At the third peaceful march they manage to reach their destination, they will then be granted the right to vote. To underline the fact that this right already existed but the local authorities illegally denied the vote to black people.

"I cannot hide, nobody can hide!"

"I think all fights have a single purpose and that purpose is our life."

"We have learned to fly like birds, to swim like fish, but we have not yet learned the simple art of living together as brothers."

“What scares me is not the violence of the bad guys; is the indifference of the good guys. "

"I am not afraid of the wickedness of the wicked but of the silence of the honest."

"We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools."
