POLITICAL PARTIES

RUSSO-JAPANESE WAR

Although the Tsar has forbidden political parties, various political are created and they oppose the Tsar. They are discontent about the lack of rights and how miserably most people are living.

This war was very unpopular because new taxes were imposed for the conflict.Upon all these, the Russian army was defeated and this made the public hostility of the Tsar to increase.

THE PARTICIPATION IN THE GREAT WAR

BLOODY SUNDAY

The industrial workers in St Petersburg moved peacefully on the Winter Palace ,where the Tsar lives, to request for improvements in their working conditiones and political reform. But the protesters were rentlessly subdue and the protest is now known as the "BLOODY SUNDAY". Now the people are going on strikes and protesting. The Social Workers´ Party which includes the Mensheviks and the Bolsheviks met in secret in St Petersburg and Moscow to organise the protests. Tsar Nicolas II finally agreed to make some political reformsand has authorised the fromation of a Duma (parliament).

Russia participated in the Great War even though most of it´s people are suffering. On top of that Russia army do not have enough food or weapons ,15 million soldiers are being mobilised and most of them are peasants. The people are discontent about the continuous defeats the army is suffering under the leadership of Tsar.

the provisional government

The workers in Petrograd previously called St Petersburg supported by soldiers and peasants had a successful revolution. The protested about the disasters of the war and the shortage of food, and also demanded Russia to withdraw from the war. Tsar Nicolas II is forced to abdicate.A provisional government is formed and its made up of liberals and Mensheviks socialists led by Alexander Kerensky. This new government failed because they did not keep their promisew to distribute land among peasantsand above all they did not withdraw from the war.

THE BOLSHEVIKS GOVERNMENT

The Blosheviks, led by Lenin, gained the supports from the soviets after the distribution of the April theses; which was a political programme in which the demands of the workers, soldiers and peasants were and the soviets were recognised as the supreme power. In October, the Bolsheviks ,organised into soviets and led by Lenin and Trotskyattacked the Winter Palace in Petrograd, the seat of the provisional government. They have established a new proletarian government called the Council of People Commissars. Lenin became Russia´s leader and Stalin succeeded him after his death in 1924. They withdrew from the Great War and also expropriate land and distributed it among the peasants. They also changed the name of the Bolshevik party to the Communist Party the made only legal political party. In January 1918, a civil war broke out in Russia between the counter-revolutionaries (who formed the White Army who were supported by the Allied powers, who wanted Russia to re-open the Eastern Front against Germany and the Bolshevik forces ,led by Trotsky who defended the new government. However the white army was defeated.
