Van is a city in eastern Turkey, located on the eastern shore of Lake Van.

Van Lake

Lake Van is the largest lake in Turkey. It's also the biggest sodium water lake in the world.

The water is not very suitable for drinking or watering because of its high salinity.

The island of Akdamar is also home to the unique Akdamar Church. It is open to prayer once a year.

In spring ,the island's trees are blooming with aromatic flowers

Muradiye Waterfall

The height of the waterfall is 50 meters. In winter, the waterfall freezes. In every season, it has wonderful scenery.

The name given to the island, Akdamar-Aght'amar, is explained by a local legend. A nobleman who fell in love with a beautiful girl named Tamara visited the island every night to see her. As he was crossing the lake one stormy night, his boat capsized, and fighting the waves, he drowned and said the words "Ach Tamar". So the island was called "Ach Tamar" (Aght'amar).

Pearl mullet, only fish species in Lake Van, migrates to freshwaters by swimming inversely to flow in their spawning period.

You can do rafting in Bahçesaray,Van.

In winter, people go skiing in Abalı Skiing Center in Van.

You can do paragliding in Van. Also, there are some other sports to do in Van.
