Education Recommendations

Innovating Pedagogy

According to Linda Castañeda, Professor at the Department of Didactics and School Organization at Universidad de Murcia “the most interesting technologies in schools and classrooms are those that can be run by more than one person, that can help us support a collective. Technologies can help us build spaces of learning in a more social and material way.” This is why it’s important to recognize three prominent trends in Spain’s K-12 classrooms: Digital Responsibility, Innovating Pedagogy, and Student-led Learning.

Digital Responsibility

Student Led-Learning

01

Future of education and skills

Students need support in developing not only knowledge and skills but also attitudes and values, which can guide them towards ethical and responsible actions. At the same time, they need opportunities to develop their creative ingenuity to help propel humanity towards a bright future. According to Andreas Schleicher, Director of the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills, “Education is no longer about teaching students something alone; it is more important to be teaching them to develop a reliable compass and the navigation tools to find their own way in a world that is increasingly complex, volatile and uncertain. Our imagination, awareness, knowledge, skills and, most important, our common values, intellectual and moral maturity, and sense of responsibility is what will guide us for the world to become a better place”

Digital Transformation Trends

Summary

While the digital economy is booming, the demand for many traditional, high-paying professionals like lawyers, accountants, academics and middle management is decreasing due to what’s being called the robot revolution. Fortunately, there are new industries where hierarchies aren’t well-established because the skills required to do the work have only been around for a few years. It is these new industries that will drive the next economic boom..

Digital Transformation Trends

Conclusions from research

  • One thing is certain—life will never return to the pre-corona era. Taking into account the trends that have emerged in the academic field during these pandemic days, we can make certain intelligent extrapolations. Education, an engine of change, plays a vital role in ensuring quality of life. Its style is bound to undergo a significant transformation.
  • As colleges and universities embrace technological innovations, their priority is improving the student experience — and providing high-quality learning tools for the growing number of diverse learners. A recent survey of 62 higher education decision-makers conducted by the Center for Digital Education (CDE) identified the following technologies as vital to digital transformation: digital content (58%), student information systems (SISs)/learning management systems (LMSs) (44%), and automation technologies (39%).

Traditional teacher cannot easily change as an effective online teacher. This calls for the massive online training of millions of teachers.

Style of Online Courses

Merits of online programmes:

Video lectures can be viewed repeatedly whenever students feel comfortable. They can derive the benefits of lessons from the best educators in the world.

No hands-on skill can be developed without the close guidance of an instructor. Online teaching of children in lower standards will not be effective, since their movements have to be continuously monitored by the teacher.

On the flip side:

A blended system that combines traditional classroom teaching and online exercises would gain popularity. Students may be able to get two or even more degrees simultaneously from the same or different universities in the online mode.

Formal Education, Higher Education, Adult Education as well as Art and Cultural education have been transformed in the digital space making obvious the need for conducting specified courses that not only tutor people in using technology but that also inspire people to produce and be active players in the digital community of the present and future.

“The rise of remote work creates a democratization of opportunity, and a movement of skills all around the country. Companies in primary cities can hire talent from underrepresented groups. And in secondary cities, companies now have access to talent with a different set of skills.”- Linkedin Jobs on the Rise 2021

There is a great opportunity for enforcing capacity building courses, training and initiatives in companies that enforce familiarity with current digital developments and expand the digital skills of their staff, while enforcing the inclusion of digital professionals in the labour force.

Labour Market Trends difital.0 t

Summary

The digital economy has the potential to enhance productivity, income, and social well-being. It is creating job opportunities in new markets and increasing employment in some existing occupations. As digital technologies enable the production of more goods and services with less labour, they also expose some workers to the risk of unemployment or lower wages. They also enable changes in the organization of work, with implications for the capability of existing policies and programmes to ensure labour market inclusion, job quality, and skills development.

04

Labour Market Trends

Conclusions from research

  • OECD recommends significantly to adapt succeeding in the new digitally enabled work environment:
    • 14% of workers face a high risk that their tasks will be automated
    • 32% face major changes in the tasks required in their job
  • Shifts in the workforce between appropriate jobs will be drastic, but the workforce will adapt to change. Rapid changes will take place later, probably in the 2050s. These changes will not consist in the demise of professions, but in the transformation of activities.

Some of them will be automated and people will be able to focus on new segments. At the same time, there will be a shift in employment from industry to services and the social sector. As a result of these changes, the skills requirements of the workforce will change, and the emphasis will be on soft and digital skills.

Current and Future Digital Jobs difital.0 t

Summary

As with most aspects of our lives, globalization is bound to have a massive impact in the labour market, with prospects pointing to job creation related to new technologies (data, AI, cloud computing…), but also to sectors that will demand a greater human interaction (marketing, health, sales…). These changes are already occurring, and at a fast pace; because of that, new talent is hard to find, as people’s skills are not keeping up with the needs of the market. There is also a notorious skills gap between the professionals in traditional jobs (many of which are at risk of being automated) and the new generations joining the workforce, many of whom are digital natives..

05

Labour Market Trends

Current and Future Digital Jobs

  • The World Economic Forum highlights four trends that will shape the job market of the future:
    • The change and acceptance of new technologies
    • The evolution of learning
    • The ability to follow the right skills to perform tasks
    • The mobility of talent
  • The fast changes in the job market result in unprecedented opportunities - futurists predict that "65% of children entering primary school today will have a type of job that doesn’t exist yet" - but also in the extinction of

jobs in areas related to administration, manufacturing and production, which will be automated.

    • As such, professionals whose abilities combine technical and multifunctional skills, as well as those who privilege lifelong learning and flexible accreditation, will have an advantage.
