What is Reported Speech?
We use REPORTED SPEECH when we want to report what someone said withour repeating the exact words.

How do we report?
The most common verbs for introducing reported speech are tell and say.
Important changes
- We move the sentence back in time.
- We change pronouns according to the meaning.
-We change time expressions and place according to the meaning.
Reported speech: Time expressions.
Change these sentences to Reported Speech
.- John: “I like this song” → John said that _______________ 2. "The film began at seven o'clock," he said. → He said __________________. 3. Fernanda: “I don’t speak spanish” → Fernanda said _________________. 4. George: “I am going to the beach today”
→ George said that ___________________. 5. "I never make mistakes," he said.
→ He said _____________________.
Reported Questions
The most common verb in English to refer to a question is ask.
2. In reported questions, the verb is never in the interrogative form, so we don’t use the auxiliary do/did.
- “Where do you work?” I asked - I asked where he worked.

3. In closed questions (yes/no questions) we use if or whether.
- “Is the TV report live?” he asked.
--> He asked if the TV report was live. 4. When we report a question, we make the same changes of tenses, pronouns, places, and time expressions as in reported statements.
Direct question: “Why did you do this?” They asked. (past simple)
Reported question: They asked why she had done that. (past perfect)
Change these direct questions to Reported Questions
1. Christopher: Do you want to dance? → Christopher asked me __________________. 2. "Where have you spent your money?" she asked him. → She asked him ___________________.___ 3. "Does she know Robert?" he wanted to know.
→ He wanted to know ____________________. 4. Valentina: Has John arrived? she asked. → Valentina asked ______________________
