OSCAR AWARD

In 1927 was founded the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

An Academy director, Cecil Gibbons, drew a small statue clutching a sword on the tablecloth and the sculptor George Stanley was commissioned to make it.

The first time that it was awarded was on 16 May 1929.

OSCAR AWARD

The official name of the award is the Academy Award of Merit.

According to legend, a secretary of the Academy, Margaret Herrik, looked at the statue and exclaimed: "But it looks like my uncle Oscar!".

OSCAR AWARD

Oscar night is a ceremony that has been held since 2004.

To be nominated for an Oscar, an American film must have been distributed in Los Angeles County and must have been released in cinemas for at least seven consecutive days.

OSCAR AWARD
