Use a rule to make a word
You will be given a word in brackets with another word either side of them. The words outside the breackets can be used to make the word in the brackets. You will have to find the pattern that these words follow and then use it to complete another set of words. Example: thin (than) ages lick (?) news You need to work out the word that goes where the question mark is. First find the rule.. In this case, the rule is first letter of the first word, second letter of the first word, first letter of the second word, fourth letter of the first word. Then, apply this rule to the unknown word... In this case, first letter of the first word (l), second letter of the first word (i), first letter of the second word (n), fourth letter of the first word (k). Put these letters together: link

Compound words
Compound words are formed by joining two words toegther. You will need to make a compound word by adding a word to either the start or end of the given word. Examples - Birth + day = birthday - Drum + stick = drumstick

Complete a word pair
You'll be given two word pairs that have had some letters removed in a pettern. You need to word out what this pattern is and apply it to another set of words. Example: train rain star tar sink ? In this case, the rule is the remove the first letter of the first word to make the second word. Removing the first letter of sink, leaves you with 'ink'.
