MAIN FEATURES
MAIN FEATURES OF REPTILES
-They are vertebrates-Have their skin covered in scales-They are also oviparous -Reproduce sexually -Reptiles are cold blood -Have pulmonary and cutaneous respiration -His heart has two atria and a ventricle with one or two cavities. -
SCALES
scales
The scales, composed of very hard keratin, protect reptiles from wounds and prevent the loss of water in their body. The types of scales that
has the reptiles are:-Cycloids -Granular (irregular with bulging) -Alligators (having a central ridge
sexual reproduction by eggs
Reptiles are oviparous animals, that is, they reproduce by eggs. These species use internal fertilization to procreate and it is the females that keep the eggs inside their bodies until the offspring are ready to hatch.
Breathing and Blood
breathing
BLOOD Reptiles are called cold-blooded animals or also heterothemos, that is because they have no regulatory mechanisms, temperature in their bodies and need the sun to warm up.
Air enters the lungs through muscle movements.
Chest muscles expand the chest cavity by receiving oxygen.
Inside the cavity decreases the air pressure, as on the surface it is much higher.
parts of the heart
The heart of a non-cocodrylian reptile is divided into 3 parts: a ventricle and two atria. The ventricle has a subtle separation in non-cocohydlian reptiles. In the left atrium emerges the pulmonary vein, which serves to bring oxygenated blood from the lungs, while the right atrium has the vena cava, which is responsible for bringing oxygen-free blood from the rest of the body.
