History

The work Venus of Tan-Tan was found in an archaeological excavation in 1999, 15m deep in the Draa river, next to Tan-Tan, Morocco, and is estimated to be 300,000 to 500,000 years old. With about 6 cm in height and formed by quartzite, it shows a trace of the primitive human belief, representing the pattern of sexuality and fertility in ancient times. And according to the archaeologist Robert G. Bednarik and others, the object was created by a natural process, giving it a similar shape to human, which got recognized by a primitive man and later accentuated using a stone wedge.

Characteristics

The Tan-Tan Venus is a possible anthropomorphic figure, about six centimeters tall, whose support is a quartzite pebbe. This one has several cracks that give its characteristic morphology: some of them are natural and others, apparently, artificial; in addition, it conserves ocher remains.

Curiosities

The work represents a primitive human belief, based on the female figure, which has the power of fertility and sexuality in times past, since it was not known why women generate children. The figure was found in 1999 by a team of excavations by the German archaeologist Lutz Fieldler, 15 meters deep in a river sediment on the Drá river, near Tan-Tan.
