The Leadership In Flight Training (LIFT) Academy was born out of a desire to transform the standard pilot training model into one that is more widely attainable and attractive. Steel Dynamics produces about 8.5M tons of steel per year as a company. Pittsboro itself produces about 800K tons per year of Special Bar Quality (SBQ) and employs roughly 450 people. The mill does higher all manner of people for many different carreer path types and is always hiring. Manufacturing experience is prefered for entry level positions, but not required. Seldom hire straight out of high school, but it does happen. Professionals include Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Metalurgists (Material Science), Accountants, Safety Coordinators, Sales and several others. Skilled trades included Millwrights (mechanics) and Electricians (which includes PLC programming as well as wiring). The company now does internal training for the skilled trades, hiring people from internal production to be trained and schooled in these areas.
