Although the number of marriages in Malaysia rose by 0.04% from 203,741 in 2017 to 203,821 in 2019, the general marriage rate for men aged 18 and above went down from 50.5 per thousand population in 2017 to 50.1 in 2019. For women aged 16 and above, it went down from 47.0 in 2017 to 46.2 in 2019.

Divorces increased by 13.2% from 50,314 in 2017 to 56,975 in 2019. The general divorce rate for married men aged 18 and above went from 6.6 per thousand population to 7.2 in 2019. For women aged 16 and above, this rose from 7.1 in 2017 to 7.7 in 2019.

In 2017, the median age for men tying the knot was 29 compared to 28 in 2016. For women, the median age remained at 26.

The wholesale sales value for flowers and plants in 2018 was RM809mil, and for cut flowers and plants another RM122mil. The retail sales value for flowers, plants, seeds and fertilisers was RM1.66bil. The wedding industry itself is estimated to be worth RM10bil in 2020.

For 2020, some 15.53 million condoms were produced. Condom maker Karex estimates men in Malaysia use around 90 million to 100 million condoms per year.

Based on the Household Expenditure Survey 2019, Malaysian households spent some RM40.3mil on chocolate including cooking chocolate a month.
