Black History Month Spotlight

Melissa Spriggs

What inspired you to go into education or work at a public school? I decided to go into education after speaking with one of my secondary school athletes in Alabama. He wasn’t aware of his options regarding his future. I feel it’s important for educators to let students know they are only limited by their imagination.

Who in particular inspired you to become the person you are today? My mother is my greatest inspiration. She encouraged me to search for answers and not to limit myself. She also taught me that I decide who I am to be, no one else. My mother instilled work ethic and a thirst for knowledge in me. My mother believed in helping others become their best selves. I attempt to follow that example.

How long have you been in education? How long in Alief? 11 total, 10 with Alief
