QUESTION 3/5
When taking the subway and all waggons (BrE) are generally crowded, but you see an empty car (AmE): What do you do as a New Yorker?
I am lucky! I'll surely hop on the empty car.
I'll avoid it and squash (=quetschen) myself in the crowded car.
QUIZ
Sad but true :)
Explanation:Tourists will run to the empty car thinking they’ve hit the jackpot, while knowing New Yorkers will try to get into the crowded train cars. You think this is stupid?Well, if there is one empty train car on an otherwise crowded train, it will be free for a reason. Perhaps the air conditioning is broken on a 90 degree day or maybe a bad smell has made the car impossible to stand in. Whatever the reason, avoid it and take the crowded car!

QUESTION 4/5
Where does the name Wall Street come from?
The Wall Street was a former deviding line between the new settlers and the Native Americans.
It has nothing to do with a wall. Wall street is just the name of the world's biggest stock exchange.
It is located in the financial district and devides Manhattan into business and residential quarter.
Vocabulary
QUIZ
well done!
Explanation: Wall Street was originally known in Dutch as "de Waalstraat" when it was part of New Amsterdam in the 17th century. An actual wall existed on this street from 1685 to 1699 and was built as protection against Native Americans, pirates, and the British. The wall was 2,340 feet (710 m) long and 9 feet (2,70 m) tall. After Wall Street was a slave trading marketplace in the 17th century, both residences and businesses were located in the area since the 19th century. Business increasingly got more important, so New York City's financial industry became centered on Wall Street and is nowadays most famous for the world's biggest stock exchange.

QUESTION 5/5
You walk through the streets of NYC. All of a sudden you want to take a photo / you need your mobile to answer a call. What do you do?
Stop immediately and grab your electronic device and simply take as many photos of the Time Square as you like.
Never ever make calls or take photos near Ground Zero. It is absolutely forbidden.
Get out of the stream of fast walking people, step aside and take out your mobile or camera to take 2-3 photos.
Vocabulary
QUIZ
Absolutely!
Explanation:There is one way to really annoy New Yorkers and that is stopping in the middle of the sidewalk (especially to take a picture). The city moves like a well orchestrated dance and it is always not the New Yorker running, it is you being slow!So when tourists stop to snap a photo of the Empire State Building, it can frustrate many. If a photo opportunity arises, step to the side of the crowds and then take your photo.

How Do you call a cab in NYC?
There are so many cabs in NYC, but it can be hard to get one. Do not steal the cab if somebody else is also on the street calling for one! Instead, be patient, stretch out your arm and wait for one to stop for you. Do not shout "taxi" since the driver will not hear you.
That's easy and shown in many movies: just get close to the street, stretch out your arm and shout "taxi" as loud as you can.
How do you enter the subway as a New york citizen when it is crowded?
RIGHT!
Like in Germany: regardless of their nationality people step out first and new passengers can jump on afterwards.
America first! Citizens of New York can always go first: in and out. It can be very chaotic but tourists have to wait.

RIGHT!
You do not care. New Yorkers do not acknowledge celebrities!
How fortunate! You should definitely ask for a photo!
Vocabulary
Correct.
1. You do not shout "taxi" like in the movies. 2. First let people get out of the train car and then hop in. 3. Do not acknowledge or ask for a photo.
