Getting Started

What is Classroom Screen?

What is Classroom Screen?

Classroom Screen is an online tool that allows teachers to display their instructions in a clear and visual way.

14 Widgets to Choose From!

Use widgets such as timer, dice, or name shufflers to make your class run more efficiently.

A completely free program but an account is highly recommended!

You can save up to 3 screens in a free account.

Creating an Account

You can get started immediately by selecting "Launch ClassroomScreen"

Start by visiting classroomscreen.com

You can also sign into your account on this screen as well.

To create an account, scroll down and select "log in".

Overview

When you create your Classroom Screen, the program will generate a new background each time. There are two toolbars to utilize, one on the bottom and one on the right. The home button takes you back to your account dashboard.

Bottom Toolbar

The bottom toolbar is where you will find most of the widgets necessary for instruction. There are fourteen widgets to choose from and use. If you wish to hide this toolbar once you have chosen what widgets you would like to use, click the down arrow in the bottom right corner of the toolbar.

Side Toolbar

The side toolbar is where you will find most of the settings. The gear allows you to change the name and background of the screen. Unless you have a paid subscription, you will not be able to save your screen. The sun allows you to turn on "dark mode", which makes the toolbar harder to see. The double arrows allows you to make your classroom screen "full screen". The left and right arrows allow you to toggle between multiple screens, if you have made them.

Settings & Background

Settings

When you click on the gear in the side toolbar, it opens up the settings panel. In this panel, you can name your screen, add a description, download it as a png (picture file), or download an image to set as your background. If you continue to scroll down, you will see the background settings as seen below.

Background

Below the main settings are the background settings. This is where you can customize the background to your liking. You can change the image, make it animated, upload your own image, or change it to a single color.

Names, Dice, Sound, & Media

Names

Dice

With the name randomizer, you can input your students names and let the system choose one at random! This is great for calling on a student to answer a question, etc.

You can use the dice feature to call on a student, use it as a manipulative, or play a game.

Sound

Media

While working with your in-person students, you can use the sound meter to determine if your students are working too loudly. You can also enable an alarm to go off if it's too loud!

The media widget allows you to upload images, play a youtube video, integrate your webcam, or embed a video or image to your screen.

QR Code, Draw, Text, & Symbols

QR Code

Draw

The QR code generator allows students to easily visit a website by scanning the QR code with a camera or phone.

The draw feature is very similar to paint. You can use it similar to a virtual whiteboard. Use it to solve a problem or model thinking!

Text

Symbols

The text widget is similar to a miniature Microsoft Word. Use it to type directions, a "do now", or anything you want your students to know.

The symbols allow for students to have explicit directions but in a visual way. There are 4 cues to toggle between. These are great for all students but especially for the younger grades!

Traffic Light, Timer & Stopwatch

Traffic Light

Timer

The traffic light gives students a visual of "traffic patterns" that can be used for classroom management. It can be used to show when students can talk, the teacher is available, etc.

The timer widget allows for a timer to be shown on the screen. The time can be adjusted with the plus and minus symbols. The music button allows for a song to play when the timer is done.

Stopwatch

Similar to the timer, a stopwatch can be shown on the screen. You can start and clear the stopwatch with the buttons underneath the actual stopwatch.

Clock, Calendar, & Additional Features

Clock

Calendar

The clock widget shows both the digital clock and analog clock. You can change the digital clock to show military time by selecting the green button in the middle.

The calendar widget will show the current date.

There are three additional features within each account that can be accessed on the homepage. You can create a new screen, create a poll for the students to engage with (this is not shown on your actual classroomscreen but in a different tab), and group maker. You can use the group maker to randomly create small groups.
