GRAPHS AND DIAGRAMS.

agenda

Date: Content: Scientific research tools: graphs and diagrams Guided question: How can I use scientific tools in everyday life? Scientists use different tools in the scientific work, which we can use in our daily life too. Graphic organizers: are used in science to show the information graphically. Some organizers you can use are the following: - Venn diagrams - Thematic maps - Network tree - Cause-Effect: Fishbone graph

Venn diagram

Venn diagram: is used to compare and contrast items

E.g.:

THEMATIC MAPS & network trees

Thematic maps and Network trees: are used for establishing main ideas, subordinate ideas and supporting details.

cause-effect

Cause-Effect charts are very useful to organize information.

E.g.: Fishbone graph

E.g.:

Practice in class Infer which graph or diagram they are going to work with, according to the situations proposed; 1. Animals that eat only plants are called herbivores. There are different groups of herbivores: fruit eaters, like the Toucan; seed eaters, like the squirrel, and root eaters like the rabbit. 2. Butterflies and Moths are insects with 3 pairs of legs. Butterflies are diurnal, it means active in the daytime. Otherwise, Moths are nocturnal, so they are active at night. 3. Smoke from factories, plastics under the sea, and deforestation are the cause of different types of contamination such as the Air pollution, water pollution and Soil pollution.
