CHERAW DANCE

INTRODUCTION

Cheraw dance is a traditional cultural dance performed in Mizoram, India. Consisting of mostly six to eight people holding a pair of bamboo staves on another horizontally placed bamboo on the ground. The male performers then clap the bamboos rhythmically while groups of female dancers dance in intricate steps between the beating bamboos. It is the most famous and beautiful dance in Mizoram and is the center of attraction during festive occasions.

* The movements are inspired by nature. * The bamboos were clapped together, produce a sound that forms the rhythm. * The dancers step in and out to the beats of the bamboos whilst moving their arms in a swinging motion.

It is a variety of jhumar dance that is performed only by women on folk songs in the Central areas of Haryana. The performance is related to the lives of the local people.The dance portrays a vibe of the tribes of Haryana.As the performance begins, dancers start twirling their dresses at a slow rhythm. INTRODUCTIONThis genre of folk dance deals with different and varied subject matters such as society, religion, and politics. Lavani dance is usually naughty and erotic in nature. It can also be termed as a romantic song sung by a lady who is waiting for her lover to accept her, who longs for his love. ORIGIN The beginning can be traced back to the 1560s, it came into prominence during the later days of the Peshwa rule. It was used as a form of entertainment and morale booster. COSTUME Women wear a sari of 9 yards (nauvari). They form a bun with their hair. They wear heavy jewelry. They usually put a large bindi of dark red color on their forehead.

INTRODUCTION Ramleela is based on Lord Rama's life story according to the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana, it is performed in form of play, song, and dance. It is generally performed during the festival Dussehra. It is performed in theater and it is a treat to watch. The conversations between the characters happen through small dialogues or songs. The songs are performed on musical instruments like tabla, harmonium, dhol, kartal, manjira, and khanjira are some props used in folk theatre.
