The Congo rainforest is the second largest forested area in the world.

The climate of the congo rainforest is warm and humid. There are heavy precipitation. The average temperature is 88 F or 31 C.

There are aproximately 2.000 hours of sunshine every year.

The Congo river is the Earth's second largest river by volume, draining the area of 3.7 millon square km known as the Congo Basin.

Due to the large amount of rain that falls, the soil is muddy

Soil

There are more than 10.000 animal species.

Animals

The central basin is a vast reservoir of native trees and plants. Among these, mahogany, ebony, limba, wenge, agba, iroko, sapele, bromeliad, heliconia and orchid. Fibrous plants include raffia and sisal. There are also plants used in traditional medicine, including cinchona and rauwolfia. There are more than 600 tree species. Some of them are Musa paradisiaca, oil plam, african oak and coconut palm. See photos in the next page
