The ON BOARD Project
The Educational Innovation Network (EIN) is ON BOARD Good Practice, a city project developed by Viladecans that fosters innovation in education by promoting cooperation among local stakeholders: public administrations, teachers, students, families, businesses and other members of the community. ON BOARD is an URBACT Programme Transfer Network co-financed by the ERDF to support cities sharing the knowledge and the experience based on Viladecans’ Good Practice so it can be adapted and transferred to other EU cities. ON BOARD has provided the opportunity to cities to exchange and learn from each other’s education initiatives and experiences. .

"In Viladecans Education has been a priority in the local policy agenda for almost more than 2 decades now. We strongly believe that all city agents, and citizens, can contribute to the education process. With this idea the Educational Innovation Network was created in 2013. This network, promoted by the local government, intended to put together schools, teachers, students, families and companies so they all collaborated together to foster educational success and innovation."

The journey
Conclusions
A learning community of education innovators
The Urban Local Group (ULG) has been created to booster the process of adaptation of the EIN at the local contexts with a 360º education vision: everyone educates all the time and everywhere. It is a group of local agents with representatives of the administration, teachers, families, companies, entities, and other actors.
The journey
Conclusions
The Project
Apart from transferring the Educational Innovation Network to ON BOARD partners, Viladecans wanted to develop an Improvement Plan in order to improve its Good Practice based on 4 main axes: - To develop a set of indicators for monitoring the impact of the EIN as well as Educational projects. - To include local entities as new members of the EIN. - To empower students so they have a more active role in the network. - To strengthen the sustainability of the network in the future by empowering its members.
What was expected?
The journey
Conclusions
The Project
The timing in terms of involving young people and entities. It is a process that requires time to establish complicities and develop projects that interest them so they see the benefit of being part of the EIN. Involving new people in a network is something that may not follow the schedule we set out to do.
Barriers & Difficulties
What difficulties did we encounter?
Although a set of education indicators have been defined, all of them could not have been collected during the project lifetime.
The COVID19 crisis has had an impact on the development of the 4 axes, as for example the constitution of the driver group that shall ensure a more autonomous EIN in the future.
The journey
Conclusions
The Project
ON BOARD method of exchange and learning has helped to improve Viladecans' EIN in many ways:
Creation of a set of education indicators, defined and agreed by a transversal team involving several departments.
Incorporation of entities as EIN members and development of a pilot project.
What have we achieved?
Development of a new project, Good Friends, proposed by students (after their participation at Transnational Meeting 5) that will be also implemented by them.
Improvement on the sustainability of the network given by the formation (in progress) of the Driver Group.

The learnings among the different organizations involved have been many and very diverse. Some points that everyone has in common is the fact that they have learned to work as a single team sharing the same goal. During the project lifetime, the ULG members, who have not worked as a such group before, agreed on different projects to be developed in the city. Many of the ULG members, as well, has the opportunity to travel and see how their peers take part in educational innovation projects in other cities. These facts have made many of them more open-minded when it comes to collaborating.
