Software Industry

start

What is the industry about?

  • The software industry mainly includes the part of computer programming activity which gets traded between software-producing organizations and corporate or individual software consumers.
  • Software development is basically the process of creating and maintaining various applications and frameworks.

Why is the Industry important?

Software development can help increase the productivity of several businesses. Software development agencies help to make customized software packages which are specially made to suit your business’ needs. Software development can reduce the costs on things like training, licenses, and upgrades, it increases the flexibility of the business, it can put your business in the advantage compared to other businesses, it can increase the value of your company, and it can improve the overall quality itself of your business. No matter which category of business you have, software development can always help your business in some way or the other. According to Evans Data Corporation, there were around 21 million developers (2017) and reached up to 23 million (2018). The main reason that there was such a huge software industry growth is that the digital revolution is coming up with new things to fulfill various needs and desires every single year.

What is the Industries relation with pollution?

E-waste makes up a fast-growing aspect of the global waste management stream. E-waste levels rose to 44 million tons in 2016 and will exceed 52.2 million tons by 2021. That skyrocketing volume of e-waste is expected to put a major burden on landfills.

Eighty% of e-waste generated in the United States reportedly contributes to the global “hidden flow” of e-waste; it is not registered meaning it is either unofficially exported, dumped into landfills, or incinerated.

Fun Facts!

Fun Facts!

  • It takes 530 lbs of fossil fuel, 48 lbs of chemicals, and 1.5 tons of water to manufacture one computer and monitor.
  • A large number of what is labelled as "e-waste" is actually not waste at all, but rather whole electronic equipment or parts that are readily marketable for reuse or can be recycled for materials recovery.
  • Only 12.5% of e-waste is currently recycled.
  • More than 5.5 Million Tons of Electronic Waste Have Been Thrown Out in 2020 So Far.
  • Small Electronic Devices Create More E-Waste Than Large Electronics.
  • Recycling E-Waste is Good for the Economy. Here is how: https://www.streamrecycling.com/reuse-refurbishment/
  • Only an estimated 15% of global e-waste is fully recycled (Heacock et al, 2016).
  • Only 25% of valuable metals are recovered during informal e-waste recycling (Heacock et al, 2016).
  • In 2014, the United States was estimated to be the top producer of e-waste at 7.1 million tonnes (Seeberger et al, 2016).
  • China and certain countries in Africa receive up to 80% of the world’s e-waste
