what are self driving cars ?

A self-driving car (sometimes called an autonomous car or driverless car) is a vehicle that uses a combination of sensors, cameras, radar and artificial intelligence (AI) to travel between destinations without a human operator.

how it works

self driving cars rely on sensors, actuators, complex algorithms, machine learning systems, and powerful processors to execute software. self driving cars create and maintain a map of their surroundings based on a variety of sensors situated in different parts of the vehicle. Radar sensors monitor the position of nearby vehicles. Video cameras detect traffic lights, read road signs, track other vehicles, and look for pedestrians. Lidar (light detection and ranging) sensors bounce pulses of light off the car’s surroundings to measure distances, detect road edges, and identify lane markings. Ultrasonic sensors in the wheels detect curbs and other vehicles when parking. Sophisticated software then processes all this sensory input, plots a path, and sends instructions to the car’s actuators, which control acceleration, braking, and steering. Hard-coded rules, obstacle avoidance algorithms, predictive modeling, and object recognition help the software follow traffic rules and navigate obstacles.

Technologies in self driving cars

Driverless cars utilize cameras as well as global navigation satellite systems. Self-driving vehicles take all of these inputs sensors, cameras, and GNSS data and synthesize them to come up with a very accurate three dimensional model of what surrounds them. By constantly updating this data dozens or even hundreds of times per second, autonomous vehicle platforms can see which objects are in motion such as cars that make up oncoming traffic and be able to predict their trajectories seconds or even minutes into the future. The other main function of autonomous vehicle platforms is to actuate braking, acceleration, and steering, so vehicles can drive themselves . In order for this to happen, self driving car platforms need to be physically wired into the electronic control units that control these functions of the cars they’re installed in.

Advantages & disadvantages

Advantages

Disadvantages

1. Expensive 2. Safety and security concerns 3. Prone to Hacking 4. Fewer job opportunities for others ( such as taxi drivers) 5. Non-functional sensors

1. Decreased the number of accidents 2. Lessens traffic jams 3. Stress-free parking 4. Time-saving vehicle 5. Accessibility to transportation

my recommendation

Since one of the main disadvantages of the self-driving cars is hacking as it could be the next major target of the hackers as this vehicle continuously tracks and monitors details of the owner. This may lead to the possible collection of personal data . And with the current situation surrounding us and the security that all of us need in all times , I think it would be better to improve the IT security system in the autonomous vehicle to avoid any hacking and getting our personal data and informations by others to attak people like important people , leaders and so on . So i think that the best way to prevent hacking is by downloading an antivirus app on the car system that works same as other antivirus apps ; where it scans any thing gets in or any input and if it found that it is similar to the malware in the malware definition. Then it antivirus software terminates it and directly block/removed it from the system before getting in and being able to know any information . This can be one of the options to prevent these type of cars from hackes

reflection

I enjoyed reading articles about the self-driving cars . I learned more about self -driving cars and how they work . I actually didn't face any difficulty but I can overcome any difficulty by seeking to help from my teacher ,parents , and also by researching.
