Indian contemporary Arts

Contemporary Indian art fuses multiple concepts and forms of media to express both traditional Indian and non-traditional themes.

With time, the dissimilarity between grouping, portraits, sculpture, collages and fittings is getting blurred. The new Indian painters are employing all sorts of mediums to enhance their work and they are unafraid of experimenting. They do not want to be labelled in a particular category like a watercolourist, terracotta artist or as oil painter.

The Bengal School of Art

  • Established by Abanindranath Tagore & E.B. Havell attempted to reconnect Indian artists with their past
  • Paved way for future modernist movement, reshaped contemporary taste by drawing inspiration from the past & bringing awareness to the heritage of Indian Artists
  • Alumni: Ganesh Pyne, Manishi Dey, Nirmal Dutta, Nilima Dutta, Jahar Dasgupta, Sudip Roy, Paresh Maiti, etc.
