As a child, after his father left for the war, he and his mother left for Paris. In 1911 he returned to Poland, where he lived in Vilnius. When he was 15, he volunteered in the Polish-Bolshevik war during which he was wounded and received the cross of valor for the first time. In 1924, after graduating from high school, he entered the Faculty of Law of the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius.
During his stay in Great Britain, unable to swim, he began to write maritime stories, which became the essence of his work. In the years 1942–1945 he worked in various British institutions. After the war, he was the organizer and then the director of the Polish maritime gymnasium and high school in Landywood, England.
In 1925 he began his education at the Maritime School in Tczew, which he graduated in 1928, then he sailed on passenger transatlantic liners of Gdynia-America Lines Żeglugowe SA, successively performing officer functions. In 1936 he received the master's diploma of great shipping. In 1938, he started working at the State Maritime School in Gdynia, taking the position of deputy commander of the Dar Pomorza school sailing ship.
In Poland, he worked at the State Maritime Education Center, at the Technical School of Sea Fishing in Gdynia and at the Gdynia Sea Fisheries School. In September 1, 1968, after the merger of the Sea Fishing School with the State Maritime School, the Gdynia Maritime University was established, where he lectured until his retirement in November 1970.
