Physical weathering is a term used in science that refers to the geological process of rocks breaking apart without changing their chemical balance. Over time, movements of the Earth and environment can break apart rock formations, causing physical weathering.

Chemical weathering is when chemicals in rain and moving water react with rocks and minerals to change or weaken them in some way. Chemical weathering always causes some type of chemical reaction within the rock or mineral itself.

Biological weathering is weathering caused by plants and animals. Plants and animals release acid forming chemicals that cause weathering and also contribute to the breaking down of rocks and landforms.
