Grammar: comparison of adverbs (Steigerung von Adverbien)

Today you're going to learn how to compare adverbs.

First of all, open your books to page 37 and look at the picture in B7. What are Gillian and Gruffudd doing? Now listen to Gillian and Gruffudd. You can find the audio file in our channel in schul.cloud (Titelnummer 14). Are the statements in B7 b) right or wrong? Correct the statements that are wrong.

Do you remember the difference between adjectives and adverbs?

Adjectives describe a ??? (Adjektive beschreiben ein ???) (Click to check your answer.) example: Josephine is tall. Gillian's hat is funny.

Adverbs describe a ??? (Adverbien beschreiben ein ???) (Click to check your answer.) example: Rajiv is dancing wildly. / Gillian spoke to Darren Johnson nervously.

Look at these sentences from B7 to find out about the comparison of adverbs:

  • In a rubgy match the other players can hurt you more seriously.
  • Gruffudd thinks that rugby players must train harder than football players.
  • Football players have to train more regularly than rugby players.
  • Allan Blackwell ran the fastest.

Can you explain how you compare adverbs? Write down your ideas first, then check the next page!

Für die Steigerung von Adverbien gelten die gleichen Regeln wie für die Steigerung von Adjektiven:

  • Einsilbige Adverbien steigerst du, in dem du ??? anhängst (Click here to check your answer.)Emma runs faster than the other girls.Gruffudd's team trained the hardest of all.
  • Adverbien, die auf -ly enden, steigerst du mit ??? (Click here to check your answer.)Football players earn money more easily than rugby players.Of all my friends, Ellen can sing the most beautifully.
  • Es gibt auch unregelmäßige Steigerungsformen der Adverbien, die du wie Vokabeln lernen musst:well - better - ???badly - worse - ???much - ??? - ??? (Click here to check your answer.)
