planets

Our solar system is in a galaxy called the Milky Way. There are eight planets in our solar system. Do you remember their names? The Sun is not a planet, it is a star and the moon is a satelite.

planets

The eight planets orbit around the sun

The rocky planets

Mercury, Venus, The Earth and Mars are made of rock

planets

The asteroid belt

There is an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter

PLANETS

The gaseous planets or the gas giants

INDEX

Jupitern, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are made of gas. You couldn't stand on the surface of the planet because it's not solid.

THE EIGHT PLANETS

MERCURY

The smallest planet

Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system. It’s just a little bigger than Earth’s moon. It is the closest planet to the sun, but it’s actually not the hottest. Venus is hotter.

It has no atmosphere, and it doesn’t have any moons. Mercury takes 59 Earth days to make one full rotation

venus

The hottest planet

Venus isn't the closest planet to the sun, but it is the hottest. It has mountains and volcanoes. Venus is similar in size to Earth. It spins the opposite direction of Earth. It takes about 243 Earth days to spin around just once.

THE EARTH

The blue planet

Esto es un párrafo de texto listo para escribir un contenido genial. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat

Earth is a small and rocky planet. It’s the only planet in our solar system that has living things and it has many oxygen for us to breathe.

A day on Earth lasts 24 hours. One year on Earth lasts 365 days. Every four years we need to add one day to our calendar. We call it a leap day (in a leap year).

Earth has just one Moon. It is the only planet to have just one moon

MARS

The red planet

Mars is a cold desert world. It is smaller than the Earth. Mars is red because of iron in the ground.Mars has very high mountains.. Scientists want to know if Mars had living things in the past. They also want to know if Mars could support life now or in the future.

JUPITER

The biggest planet

Jupiter is a gas giant and doesn't have a solid surface. It has big storms like the Great Red Spot, which has been going for hundreds of years. One day on Jupiter goes by in just 10 hours!

saturn

The planet with the most beautiful rings

Saturn is a gas giant like Jupiter. The seven rings we see are made of ice and rock.Saturn has 53 moons we know and other 29 moons we need to learn more about. Galileo Galilei saw Saturn through a telescope in the 1600s.

URANUS

The sideways planet

Uranus is the coldest planet.Uranus is surrounded by a set of 13 rings Uranus is the only planet that spins on its side. Uranus spins the opposite direction as Earth and most other planets..

neptune

The coldest planet

Neptune is dark, cold, and very windy. It's the last of the planets in our solar system. It's more than 30 times as far from the sun as Earth is. Neptune is very similar to Uranus.Neptune has six rings, but they're very hard to see.

ROTATION AND REVOLUTION

ROTATION

The Earth spins around its axis

  • The Earth rotates on its axis.
  • It takes 24 hours or 1 day.
  • It gives us day and night.

REVOLUTION

One year to orbit the sun

  1. The Earth revolves around the sun (makes a circle ).
  2. It takes 365 days or 1 year.
  3. It gives us the seasons.

The Earth's satellite

THE MOON

Always shows us the same face

We see different shapes of the moon that we call phases of the moon

The sun lights different parts of the moon when it revolves around the Earth.

The moon is a satellite that revolves (makes a circle) around the Earth. It takes 28 days.
