In Lowood, run by the evil Mr. Brocklehurst, Jane found a good teacher, Miss Temple, and also a good friend, Helen, who died later. Then, Jane became a teacher until she was eighteen and left the school to become a governess.
As a governess, the maine duty of Jane was to teach a little girl at Thornfield. One afternoon, when Jane went for a walk, she met a man who had fallen off his horse. He was called Mr. Rochester. Jane and Rochester became interested in each other immediately. One day, Rochester invited a group of his rich friends to stay at Thornfield, and among them there was a beautiful girl with whom he flirted and made Jane jealous. However, Rochester told her that he was in love with her and proposed to her.
The day of Jane's and Rochester's wedding two men appeared saying that Rochester is already married. Rochester admitted that he was married to another woman, but that she was crazy and wanted to marry Jane. Jane´s reaction was to refuse and then she ran away.
After that, Jane traveled without any direction, far from Thornfield. She had no money and survived thanks to the help of the Rivers family. When Jane's uncle, Mr. Eyre, died and left his fortune to his niece, it was discovered that the Rivers brothers were in fact Jane's cousins, and she shared her inheritance with the other three.
Nevertheless, Jane was sad because she still loved Mr. Rochester so she went to find him. When she found him he was blind and one-armed, but she didn't care and offered to take care of him. Finally, they got married and lived happily together.
Charlotte Brontë
Charlotte Brontë (Thornton, Yorkshire; April 21, 1816-Haworth, Yorkshire; March 31, 1855) was an English novelist, sister of two other writers, Anne and Emily Brontë.
Jane Eyre was published in 1847 and was an immediate success. Later, her two sisters died of tuberculosis and Charlotte went into a severe depression. After publishing her third novel, Villette, and marrying Arthur Bell Nicholls, she became ill and died.
Charlotte Brontë was sent to Clergy Daughters School after her mother's death. This school was an inspiration for her novel Jane Eyre. In 1832 she went to Roe Head, where she became a teacher and also worked as a governess. Ten years later, Charlotte entered the private Pensionnat Heger in Brussels with the purpose of improving her French skills but when her aunt died, she was forced to return.
Personal opinion
From my point of view, this is a very interesting book. It is a love story but being set in the 19th century makes it different and captivating. In addition, what I liked most is the main character, Jane, because she is a very intelligent and fighting person and we can see the evolution of the character throughout the story. In the beginning, she was a poor and orphaned girl and in the end she is rich and happy with the person she loves.
