WHAT IS COMMUNITY OR FOLK DANCE?
- A folk dance is a dance developed by people that reflect the life of the people of a certain country or region... for example, ritual dances or dances of ritual origin are not considered to be folk dances.
01
FOLK DANCE: SUBLI
The Subli is a traditional folk dance of the Philippines that is still quite popular today.
SUBLI
- Subli came from the word “subsob” which means to fall with the head down and “bali” (accent on the second syllable) meaning broken.
- This is interpreted in the way the male dancers look down and also the way the dancers move in steps. Others said it came from the word “sobli” meaning “salisi” or the exchange of place which is a prominent feature of the dance.
SUBLI
- Subli is a dance, a religious ritual, a “panata” or a solemn vow directed to the Holy Cross for all the blessings and the people’s belief that the cross has the power to ward off evil spirits. Subli is also a play and is a long sequence of prayers in verse, songs and dances.
- During the dance, the ladies dance in circle and with graceful movement of their wrists and their fingers grazing their brimmed hats and alampay, a triangular scarf worn loosely over their shoulders. The male dancers move in a weak but dramatic movement with tortuous and twisting motion in between and around the ladies. It has a very lively music.
THE HISTORY OF SUBLI DANCE:

- It is a ceremonial worship dance honoring the Holy Cross (or “Mahal Na Poong Santa Cruz” in Filipino) and is celebrated around a large crucifix which has an image of the sun in silver at its center.
THE ORIGIN OF SUBLI DANCE:
- The dance of Subli originated in the barrio (or baryo, rural village) of Dingin in Batangas approximately 300 years ago, but soon spread to barrios throughout the area.

HISTORY OF ITIK -ITIK

- Regular physical activity is considered one of the most important factors for lifestyle, for maintaining good health in older ages and increasing life expectancy. Dance is considered an activity that involves coordinating movements with music, as well as brain activation because it is constantly necessary to learn and remember new steps. Dance as a musical-kinetics skill requires the coordination of body movements with rhythmic stimuli.
- Space, Dynamics, and Rhythm are the three elements of dance. Each element has its functions and aspects. Space has six aspects namely floor plan, direction, focus, level, dimension, and contour.
