Course Overview
The Sustainable Development Goals, 2015-2030 represents a global consensus on the most pressing problems facing world societies today; from poverty to infrastructure development, from justice and human rights protections to global warming. These 17 goals, a continuation from the Millennium Development Goals, 2000-2015, provide a comprehensive statement of global problems coupled with realizable benchmarks that provide tangible, achievable aims to organize concerted, global action. The SDGs, part of a UN-led effort, include 230 specific indicators in a wide-range of areas including poverty, sustainable energy, education, peace, climate action, infrastructure development and water access.

Course Overview
The SDGs are a potentially rich teaching resource as they provide in-depth and current insights into a wide berth of global issues with an overt commitment to pointing forward in terms of what can be done to eradicate global poverty, mitigate the effects of climate change, and address the needs of refugees. One would be hard-pressed to identify a more comprehensive agenda and a weightier set of concerns that demand study and action. Educators from diverse teaching preparations and diverse backgrounds can find meaningful curriculum connections in the goals, including policy and civic dimensions for social studies, educational access with respect to teaching language and literacy, climate change and species extinction for science educators, and statistical measurements for mathematics teaching. Taken together, SDG15-30 offers a comprehensive exploratory chocked-full of real-world connections to prepare young people for living in a globally interconnected, diverse world.
