Située sur le port de Concarneau, la Base est un lieu stratégique et historique pour UNDER THE POLE. Rassemblant à la fois les bureaux, les ateliers et entrepôts de matériel de plongée ainsi que le ponton du navire WHY, c'est ici que chacune des expéditions est préparée. La Base est également un lieu de rencontres et de sensibilisation auprès du grand public et des scolaires.

Gathering at the same time the offices, workshops and warehouses of diving equipment as well as the pontoon of the ship WHY, it is here that each expedition is prepared. The Base is also a place for meetings and awareness-raising among the general public and schoolchildren.

Discovery Greenland
The third expedition of UNDER THE POLE aims to study the underwater environment between the surface and 150 m depth and to develop new diving techniques to extend the duration of human immersions. The polar schooner WHY will travel the world, from the Arctic to the Pacific and will return via the Atlantic. For its first major stopover, UNDER THE POLE will return to Uummannaq, where the 2nd expedition and its wintering took place.

Grâce à UNDER THE POLE, les scientifiques du CRIOBE vont avoir accès à la plus grande collection de coraux mésophotiques au monde.

Coral reefs provide us with invaluable services. However, they are subject to many man-made stresses, and species are disappearing before they can even be discovered! Little studied, the coral ecosystems of the mesophotic zone have not revealed all their richness. Thanks to UNDER THE POLE, CRIOBE scientists will have access to the largest collection of mesophotic corals in the world.

During 3 years, UNDER THE POLE developed a light submerged living cell with large transparent domes to observe the marine environment 24/24h, over several days. It is in French Polynesia, in Moorea, that the Capsule found a site as safe for the ecosystem as for the divers, near the laboratory of UNDER THE POLE's scientific partner: CRIOBE (CNRS).
