What does invention mean? What Iron Age inventions have we learnt about? Let's revise!

IRON

If we talk about the Iron age inventions, the first thing that comes to our mind is Iron. It is iron technology that makes this era different from the Bronze Age . Although the use of iron spread slowly, it was a significant change in human technology that brought us to the present day.

PLOW

Iron used in farming helped to improve agriculture throughout the world. Plows with iron tips made it possible to turn hard earth and allowed farmers to expand the amount of land they had in cultivation. This helped Iron age people to make more food base

Larger boats-vessels

There were much larger boats in Iron age.

rudders

Ship builders changed the use of oars and added rudders to their crafts. Rudder - a flat piece of wood or metal at the back of a boat or aircraft, moved from side to side in order to control the direction of travel.

Pottery wheel

The Iron Age saw the introduction of two very important tools: the potter's wheel and the wood pole lathe. Before the potter's wheel, people made pottery by rolling and coiling clay; the wheel made the process faster and more efficient.

Wood pole lathe

The pole lathe allowed wood workers to make novel items of wood, including buckets and bowls. The worker would rotate a piece of wood with the lathe and use a tool with a sharp cutting edge to shape it into useful objects.

Spinning wheel

Spinning wheel was a machine used to turn fibre into thread or yarn. THis thread or yarn is vowen as cloth on a loom. It was invented to make it easy for people to prodce yarn or thread for clothes.

WATER WHEEL

The water wheel is an ancient device that uses flowing or falling water to create power by means of paddles mounted around a wheel. It provided lifting for the supply of water to land or crops to help growth and lifting the flour production in Iron age.
