BENJAMIN FRANKLIN- LIGHTING CONDUCTOR
The tenth son of a Boston soap maker, Benjamin Franklin came into the world on the 17th of January 1706. His father wanted him to be a clergyman, but he was not interested in it. He started to work as an apprenticed in his uncle’s press. He wrote some letters to the Newspaper signed as Silence Dogood and his uncle published them. Ben went to Philadelphia in 1726, he continued working with printed machines and writing texts, some years later he became a full-time inventor.
He was deeply interested in electricity, so in 1750 he sold his business. Ben had a plan to prove that lightning was indeed electricity. He built a very small kite and he attached a string and a metal key to attract the lightning from the storm clouds. This experiment in June of 1752 confirmed Franklin’s beliefs that lightning was indeed electricity. He used his work to develop effective lightning conductors that saved buildings from being destroyed and people could live in their homes more safely. Benjamin Franklin died on the 17th of April in 1790 at the age of eighty-four.
