My Journey
- In the past I was undeniably a Direct Aggressor. I have come a long way in terms of dealing with my emotions, especially with the things that tick me off. I find myself to be a lot more humble these days.
- The Reciprocity Theory was definitely my code of conduct growing up. I have since then realized that my life is more at peace when I am the bigger person
- My personality was one that displayed Trait Anger. However, I've somewhat learned to become more patient since becoming a mother.
Things I've learned about myself
- Taking this course has made me realize that my Conflict Management Style is collaborating, otherwise known as the owl.
- According to the Psychodynamic Theory, I more tend to show the Ego aspect. Now that I have dependents, I have to weigh out the consequences of my actions before I act.
- I've learned to forgive most of the people and situations in my life. I have a few more situations that I am still working on. However, the most important thing I've learned about forgiveness is that I can forgive someone without a sincere apology due to the fact it will help with my inner peace.
My Future
- Personal life- I think Constructive Conflict will definitely help me in future conflicts with my kids because it can show insights to the conflict without an exertion of power
- Professional life- Using strategies to manage the conflict climate can definitely be of use in a professional setting because it can be used to de-escalate situations in a professional manner
Life Hurdles
- Marginalized- People to this day are still facing racist encounters especially at stores where white people treat other whites as equal. However, they treat non-whites like they're the scum of the Earth. Fortunately, I've never experienced any of these situations and hopefully, I will never have to.
Possible Life Paths/Big Decisions
- Relationships- I think the S-TLC System can help me manage conflicts because it can help me really reflect on a situation with a better mindstate. Especially in a situation with my partner.
- Speaking up for someone can leave you in a bind but in my opinion if it is morally right then I feel it should be done. For some, that could mean now being without a job, being imprisoned, or something of that sort.
Interesting Facts
- Conflict is inevitable. It should be accepted as a fact of life.
- Japanese Apologies do not include explanation and excuses. To do so will be considered disgraceful.
- There are Four Types of Stress.
Bob Marley
I think the song by Bob Marley- War has to do with conflict in a sense because it is talking about the real life conflicts that take place in the world. There is still a lot of racism taking place throughout the world due to people feeling superior to others resulting in senseless killings. Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and many others were unfortunately victims of being targets of marginalized groups.
