QUESTION WORDS
ENGLISH CLASS
STEVE JOBS
Sometimes life will hit you over the head with a brick, but don't lose faith.
WHY WE USE QUESTION WORDS?
We use question words to ask certain types of questions (question word questions). We often refer to these words as WH words because they include the letters WH (for example WHy, HoW).
WHAT?
What is used when we have many options to choose from.WHAT is your favorite drink? WHAT is she like?
WHO?
Who is a subject pronoun like he, she or they (EL, ELLA, or ELLOS). On the other hand, WHOM is a subject pronoun like HIM, HER or US. We use it to ask or talk about who receives the action of the verb, equivalent to “to who”.WHO is your English teacher?
WHERE?
This word is used when asking a question that is related to a place or to give directions of a location. "WHERE are you going?" "WHERE is your house?"
WHICH?
Which is used for a very limited number of options. It is used especially when the people speaking know all the options. If you're not sure whether to use which or what, use what and you're probably right. The fact is that in Spanish which is used much more than which is used in English. WHICH box sould I pick?
WHEN?
In the first place, When is translated by the adverb 'cuándo'. So it already indicates that it will be used to ask about the time or a specific occasion in it. If you want to know a date or when something happens, you need to use 'When'.WHEN is your birthday?
WHY?
This conjugation is used to ask a question about the motive, cause or reason for something. It is used in both direct and indirect interrogations. It is also the literal translation of why into English.
HOW?
In English we use how with an adjective to ask about the characteristics of something. Remember that in English the adjective is always singular and does not change gender. Many of these phrases are translated into Spanish in a totally different way (or are very difficult to translate). So we should treat them as set phrases.
HOW MUCH?
How much is used to ask for quantities. Therefore, how much is used with countless things. Examples: "How much money do you have?"(¿Cuánto dinero tienes?)
HOW MANY?
how many is used to ask for quantities. Therefore, with accounting things.HOW MANY balls are there?
WHAT TIME?
Se usa para los diferentes tiempos verbales indistintamente: What time did she arrive? (¿A qué hora llegó?) What time will she arrive? (¿A qué hora llegará?)
HOW LONG?
SeThe expression how long is normally used to ask about the duration of something. A translation into Spanish would be “¿Cuánto tiempo? And as we will see, it is used with a variety of verb tenses. It is one of the many ways to ask questions with how in English.
