My story

My name is Maribel and I've had a passion for cocoa beans since my childhood when my grandmother used to prepare a delicious cocoa drink mixed with spices. According to her "one cup would keep us focused on school and make us live longer." She also used to eat raw cacao beans but I hated them since they were very bitter; however, I loved her sweet chocolate drink. In 2013 I decided to buy a farm to grow all kinds of different fruits. I looked for the best climate, fresh water and fertile land. I travel for three months in Ecuador looking for the perfect place. And one day I found a farm in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas that came with 12 acres of cacao tree plantations. I fell in love at first sight with that farm and I remembered my grandmother, her stories and cocoa drinks. I also did a lot of research on the process of making chocolate and cocoa products. I studied with renowned chocolatier chef Eddy Rosinne and George Brown College for my Professional Chocolatier Diploma in Toronto. In 2017 I opened the doors of my chocolate farm together with Fernanda, a magnificent farmer / host who knows a lot about ancient gastronomic techniques and wisdom about medicinal plants. In 2018 in Toronto, I began teaching the "Bean to Bar" cocoa process and also professional chocolate bar and truffle workshops. In my workshops, I love to tell indigenous tales and talk about the history of cocoa and its health benefits.
