Imagine

Feel

Do

Share

Help learners identify an issue they care about. Encourage them to build their understanding by connecting with those impacted

Get the group to brainstorm on solutions to address the issue based on inputs received

Get them to select the idea that is most likely to have the maximum positive impact on people. Plan and implement the solution

Encourage them to share their work through photos, videos, writeups in different platforms to inspire others

Feel

Why Feel? When you want to design a better solution, you need to move from 'assumptions' to 'insights' – this happens when you engage with the people facing the problem and design solutions 'WITH' instead of 'FOR' them. This develops EMPATHY.

Ways to use digital tools to help students ‘feel’?

  • Play podcasts on global issues and with local opportunities from DFC podcast library to help students understand and empathise
  • Play YouTube videos videos for your students so that they can get a first person perspective about the issue or challenge
  • Invite a guest speaker to share their experience or knowledge on the identified issue virtually

Practice Feel: A Word Cloud of Feelings

Word clouds can be a great tool to get learners to share their feelings and sense an overall feeling of the group visually. Try it out in the exercise below! Once you're done with your inputs click below to see the word cloud!

Imagine

Why Imagine? Being creative and brainstorming on new ideas and solutions to the problem identified before deciding on one idea that you'd like to implement. This mindset helps you believe that you are NOT helpless, change IS possible and YOU can drive it!

Ways to use digital tools to help students ‘imagine’?

Whimscial

  • Use mind mapping tools like Whimsical to collect your ideas and thoughts, or Jamboard to get students to post all their ideas on digital post-its and even vote on the post-its
  • Use conferencing tools like Zoom, Microsoft Team, Duo, WhatsApp, etc., to bring people from different locations together and plan

Do

Why Do? 'Action' that follows 'intention' results in the desired 'impact'. Plan the action, including resources, roles, time, documentation etc. and act on the selected solution. If possible test out before fully realising the said idea.

Examples of using technology to DO good

Examples of using digital technologies to ‘do’ good

An online petition to get Procam International to reduce disposable plastic bottles and stop distributing cold packaged food during its annual Mumbai Marathon. Create similar petitions using online petition sites.

A successful online campaign to promote a curated course on Appalachian History. Use social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. to run such digital campaigns.

Fundraising for 30 children with special needs using online crowdfunding platforms. Use such platforms to raise funds for issues like medical treatment, education, waste solutions etc.

Share

Why Share? It develops ELEVATION. Elevation is the shift from 'competing' with others to 'completing' others. Sharing positive actions offers hope and inspiration for further change.
