Haydn's success in string quarter composition earned him the nickname "Father of the String Quartet" Many of Haydn's symphonies have given nicknames because of their characteristics. For example, The Clock Symphony because of its ticktock rhythm, and the Surprise Symphony because of its sudden loud chords.

Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer whose Symphony 5 is a beloved classic. Some of his greatest works were composed while Beethoven was going deaf. His early signs of musical gifts led the family to hope for a genius on the order of Mozart, but these hopes were not achieved. The young Beethoven had a poor music education. Beethoven’s personal life was marked by a struggle against deafness, and some of his most important works were composed during the last 10 years of his life, when he was quite unable to hear. He died at the age of 56. Some of his famous works are Fur Elise, Symphony no.5, Symphony no.9 (Ode to Joy) and Moonlight Sonata.
"Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman"
“The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between.”
"I listened more than I studied...therefore little by little my knowledge and ability were developed.
