Digital Object Identifier

Metadata & stable URL
Example of DOI: 10.23638/LMCS-13(2:15)2017
The DOI is associated with a metadata file and a stable URL. This URL can send directly to the resource or to a landing page (a descriptive page of the resource). It is advisable to choose a link to a landing page:- to note additional metadata- to cite the resource correctly- to know the conditions of access to the resource.
An international PID
What is it?
At the international level, the DOI allocation for research data is managed by DataCite.
The DOI is an international identifier that provides persistent access to digital resources (publications, data, journals, reports...) through a unique and stable link.
One or more members in each country attribute DOI as DataCite agency: - In France, the only DataCite member is Inist-CNRS. - In Germany, there are several members (German National Library of Economics, German National Library of Medicine, German National Library of Science and Technology, Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Göttingen State and University Library, Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen)... Institutions and data centers can obtain DOIs directly by contacting a DataCite member agency.
A DOI cannot be deleted !If the data are no longer available, obsolete or no longer relevant, this must be indicated on the landing page.
DOI = a prefix + a suffix separated by a slash " / "
