ORCID is an alphanumeric code based on ISNI. It solves problems of homonymy and ambiguity.
ORCID brings together all of the researcher's work and contributions: articles, data sets, reviews, but also software, conference speeches, translations etc. Indeed ORCID is interconnected with information systems or databases such as the Web of Science, some institutional archives...
ORCID is a universal, neutral, independent and free identification system. It is dedicated specifically to members of the scientific community. It was created by a consortium of many actors from the world of research (universities, research institutions, learned societies, publishers, etc.). ORCID is the result of an international consensus.
Example of ORCID: 0000-0003-0634-3277
Web page
The creation of an ORCID generates a web page where the researcher can complete his/her profile by filling in a number of headings: jobs, affiliations, work, funding, websites etc. The researcher controls his ORCID and manages his web page independently. He may or may not authorise the automatic updating of his profile.
