Use of will

Will and going to are used to talk about the future. Will is an auxiliary verb so we will combine it with another verb. Use the future with will to talk about:

Rapid decision

Prediction

Offers or promises

  • I'll call a taxi for you.
  • I think we'll go right now.
  • Which one? Um, I will have the chicken sandwich please.
  • I'll see you tomorrow.
  • We'll send you an email.
  • Mary will help with the cooking.
  • Oliver’ll be back soon.
  • We won’t be ready.

Threat or refusal

Express an opinion

  • I told him to clean his room but he won't do it.
  • She won't listen to anything I say.
  • I will talk to the principal about your behavior.
  • He will probably come back tomorrow.

Future with will structure

Positive: Subject + will + verb

Future with negative structure

Negative: Subject + will not ( won't) + verb
