Discover the story of Guy Fawkes !

Guy Fawkes, a Catholic man, wanted to blow up the British parliament, the Palace of Westminster. He wanted to assassinate the monarch, King James I because he didn't tolerate their religion. On 5th November, the military discovered the conspiracy. They captured Fawkes and incarcerated him in the Tower of London. They tortured and executed him. To celebrate the end of the conspiracy the British went out and had big bonfires in the streets.

Today

On Bonfire Night, (or Guy Fawkes Night), November 5th, the tradition continues. There are fireworks and bonfires, with effigies of Guy Fawkes!

Le prétérit

Le texte est conjugué au passé (qu'on appelle prétérit en anglais). Le prétérit est un temps qui permet de parler d’événements passés qui ont eu lieu à un moment précis et daté dans le passé et qui sont totalement coupés du présent.

Le prétérit

Attention ! Tous les verbes ne suivent pas la règle du -ED ! Certains verbes sont ce qu'on appelle des verbes irréguliers !

The British went out and had big bonfires in the street.

Dans cette phrase, il y a deux verbes irréguliers. WENT, qui est le prétérit de GO, et HAD, qui est le prétérit de HAVE.
