Muscles movement & Muscles of the leg
Movements
Adduction- Movement of a limb toward the midddle or midline of the body Abduction- Movement of a limb away from the middle or midline of the body
Movements
Flexion - A bending movement in which the angle of the joint decreases Extension- A straightening of the joint which increases the angle
Movements
Rotation -To turn upon its axis Circumduction- Circular movement combining flexsion, extension, adduction and abductionwith no rotation
Movements
Plantar flexion- the movement of the ankle joint in which the foot is flexed downwards (standing on toes) Dorsi flexion - To bend at the ankle and move the front of the foot upwards
Movements
Inversion - Turning the foot inward Eversion - Turning the foot outwards
Muscles of the leg
Muscles of the leg
Quadraceps 4 muscles at the anterior of the thigh
- Rectus femoris
- Vastus medialis
- vastus lateralis
- Vastus intermedius
Muscles of the leg
PectineusFlexes the hip, adducts the thigh and medially rotates the thigh to turn upon its axis
Muscles of the leg
Adductors3 muscles on the medial area of the thigh
- Adductor longus
- Adductor brevis
- Adductor magnus
Muscles of the leg
Gracilis Adduction of the hip, assists in flexion and medial rotation of the flexed knee
Muscles of the leg
Sartorius Assists in flexion, abduction, lateral rotation of the hip and assists flexion and medial rotation of the knee Longest muscle in the body
Muscles of the leg
Hamstrings3 muscles at the posterior of the thigh
- Biceps femoris
- Semitendinosis
- Semimembranosus
Muscles of the leg
Glutes3 muscles that form the buttocks
- Gluteus Minimus
- Gluteus Medius
- Gluteus Maximus
Muscles of the leg
Gastrocnemius Plantar flexion of the foot at the ankle and flexion of the knee
Muscles of the leg
SoleusPlantar flexion of the foot Lies deep under the gastrocnemius but is wider Muscle contracts to assist in pumping blood back to the heart from the lower leg
