What is a News report?

News reports are designed to relate the news. The article is written to inform readers. It is factual, meant to present information in a quick, and easy form.

News report structure

Headline: The headline must grab the attention of the reader.Lead: The most important facts / Answer all W5`s / It is specific.

Body: Explains how the story happened / Includes words said by the speakers connected with the story.Byline: The author of the news report

Headline

1) It is the tittle, so, for a news article, this is where you have to show your creativity.2) It Catches your attention. 3) It Sums up the story.

Lead

1) The opening section 2) Gives most important information 3) Should answer most of the 5W questions:

Who? Where? When? Why? How?

Body

The main news article itself is written from bottom down. In other words, the most important information comes first and each paragraph gives less and less details. * Supplies detail * Most important details come first * Simple true statements * What someone actually said ( told -said )

It is the writer’s name.
