EXPAND WHAT YOU KNOW
Expressing future predictions, possibility and probability with modal verbs.
future predictions
When we express future predictions, we can express them with different levels of certainty:
- We use BE GOING TO when we talk about definite and firm predictions because there is evidence in the present to support them.
- We use WILL when we talk about confident predictions but there is no evidence in the present to support them.
- We use MIGHT, MAY, CAN or COULD when we talk about possible predictions but we are not completely sure about them. There is no evidence in the present to support them.
