In engineering and architecture, technical drawing consists of plans, diagrams and texts that define projects and communicate ideas. These drawings have rules and practices that mean than anyone involved can understand them. The basic tools we use for technical drawing are the computer, pencils, and paper, and measuring instruments.

Pencils
Paper
They are made of woods with graphite or clay in the centre.
There are a lot of different types of paper. We choose one or another according to the type of drawing and the effect we´re looking for.

Activity 3.1
Act. 3.1.1. Complete the text with these letters and words: B,H, artistic, technical, fine, thick. Soft pencils are those that carry the letter ___, are used in ____________________ drawing, are softer and have the stroke more _________________________
Hard pencils are those that carry the letter ___, are used in ___________________ drawing, are more _________________ and clean.
Act. 3.1.2. Order these types of mines from hardest to less hard: H, 3B, 5H, HB, 6B, 3H.
Act. 3.1.3. Order these paper sizes from highest to lowest: A4, A1, A3, A2, A5, A0.
Act. 3.1.4. Say whether these phrases are true or not:
The paper size is indicated by the letter B, followed by a number.
The A3 size is what we usually use.
The dimensions of an A4 are 297 x 420 mm.
The texture of a paper can be matte or satin.

We use different measuring instruments: ruler, protractor, triangle, set square and compass.

Activity 3.2.1
In a piece of paper, use a compass and the set square to draw parallel and perpendicular lines. You must draw a circle with a radius of 8 cm and, inside it, another with a radius of 4 cm. Between the big one and the little one, draw horizontal lines. Inside the little one, draw vertical lines.
Activity 3.2.1
In a piece of paper, use a ruler and a protractor to draw an angle of 35º.

Different projects require different levels of detail in their drawing

03 REPRESENTING OBJECTS
Video
We can look at an object form different angles. Our perception of the object is different depending on the view. There are three types of views that give us the most information:
-Top view (Plan): This is the view of the object from above.
-Front view (Elevation): This show us the front of the object – the most common view.
-Side view (Profile): This is the view of one side of the object and can give us additional information.
03 REPRESENTING OBJECTS
Act. 3.4
Draw the top view (Plan), front view (Elevation) and side view (Profile) of the following exercises:

The relation between drawing and reality
04 SCALES
E 1:1
E 1:50
E 10:1
The drawing is fifty times smaller than the real object.
When the drawing and the object are the same, this is a life-size drawing.
The drawing is ten times bigger than the real object.
E 2:1
E 1:10
The drawing is ten times smaller than the real object
The drawing is two times bigger than the real object.

Act. 3.5
Draw the top view, front view and side view from your water bottle. Use the propper scale.
Draw the top view, front view and side view from the cap of your water bottle. Use the propper scale.
Act. 3.6.
You need to bring at least 2 tetrabricks, 5 tetrabrick plugs, scissors, glue and recycled paper (to protect the table).
