03/17/2022
Introduction
The clip below describes the main features of the IRML:
This lesson plan has been co-developed between the Interactive Research Methods Lab's team, and Dr. Iván Jorrín (Professor of Educational Research at Kennesaw State University). The aim of the lesson plan is to help graduate students to collaboratively develop a visual representation of teh key elements conforming the conceptual frameworkfor their dissertation studies. EDRS 9300 is a doctoral seminar that helps doctoral candidates in conceptualizing, identifying the components of, and articulating the emerging conceptual framework of their dissertation.

1. This activity will help graduate students develop their research skills. These include logic, and problem-solving skills (Bauer & Bennett, 2003) and experimental skills like design, data collection, data analysis, understanding of limitations, and research ethics (John & Creighton, 2012; Russell, Hancock, & McCullough, 2007). Students also learn how to seek out and consume the relevant literature and learn the disciplinary language (Bauer & Bennett, 2003). 2. It will also help students develop their communication skills. Students improve their oral, written, and visual communication skills (Bauer & Bennett, 2003).
3. Finally, the proposed activity will promote students’ critical thinking.

Step 0: Prior to the face-to-face session in the IRML, students will receive this lesson plan so they can be aware of the activity to be conducted. Step 1: The IRML will be introduced to students. A team member of the lab will describe its structure based on the nine steps proposed by Hopscotch. The functioning of the augmented reality contents will also be shown. (15') Step 2: Construct a visual display or representation of the concepts and the relationships between the concepts of your emerging conceptual framework. The visual display should clearly reflect the major concepts identified in A.2 (topical research & theoretical frameworks) and the relationship between them. The graphic should be as simple as possible yet be complete in reflecting the complexity (or simplicity) of the related concepts (45’ ) • In this link you can see a few examples of visual representations of conceptual frameworks.• In D2L under "Week 10: Role of Conceptual Frameworks in Data Collection/assignments," you will find the description of A.5. This description includes a set of Google Documents with a template for the visual, for each of the students taking the course.
• In this link you can download the template we will be using for this activity • A hard copy of the template will be provided during the face-to-face session. You'll have three options to work in the visual representation of yoru conceptual framework: a) use a hard copy of the template; b) use the individual Google document template included in D2l's description of A.5; C) use this tool to automatically generate a visual representation of your conceptual framework. Step 3: Students will present/share with the rest of the group the visual
representation of their studies (45-60’) (5-7 minutes each)
