The two candidates CAMPAIGN all over the country. They visit each state, make speeches, and they debate.

Inside a PARTY, party MEMBERS choose a CANDIDATE to represent them in the GENERAL ELECTION.

In AUGUST, the PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE of each party is SELECTED. He / she chooses a RUNNING MATE.

In DECEMBER, the ELECTORAL COLLEGE (538 people) votes for a candidate. The candidate with 270 (or more) votes becomes the PRESIDENT ELECT.

On the TUESDAY after the FIRST MONDAY in NOVEMBER, people vote for ELECTORS (either fom the Republican or the Democratic party.
