It was a nice day; the sun was shining hotly so we decided to go for a good walk on the beach. The beach was lovely and empty so we could walk slowly and enjoy the sound of the waves knocking hard against the big rocks. Unfortunately the big clouds on the horizon came moving quickly towards us. Luckily the yellow sun came out and we had a good day on the nice beach.

The five senses

''You must learn to heed your senses. Humans use but a tiny percentage of theirs. They barely look, they rarely listen, they never smell and they think that they can olny experience feelings though their skin. But they talk, oh do they talk.''

Take some time to look around your classroom and consider the whole school. Write five sentences describing the sights, sounds and textures around you.

I hear ...I see ... I taste ... I smell ... I feel ...

what do you see, hear, smell, feel, taste?

what do you see, hear, smell, feel, taste?

Personification

This yellow behemoth is the monster of the streets. He struts his stuff down the aisles of our roads with his subjects bowing low behind him. His large mouth roars his commands as his followers grovel to catch up with his demands to receive the treasure of our bins; the shiny tins; the multicoloured plastics and bottle tops. All gems in his giant claws.

Rule of Three

The rule of three is used very often in writing to give a catchy, memorable way of describing or giving information. It is often used in advertising or for slogans and catchphrases. Can you think of examples?
