What is Passive Voice?

It is when we change the places of the Subject and the Object in a sentence.

Example: Active Voice: I changed the password. Passive Voice: The password was changed by me.

When do we use it?

We use it when we want to give more emphasis to the action than the person who did the action.

Example: Active Voice: I uploaded the video yesterday. Passive Voice: The video was uploaded yesterday.

Grammar rule

In Passive Voice we always have to use: the Verb To be + the verb in Past Participle.

Example: The window was broken. The dog has been found. Your homework is being graded.

Important!!!

In Passive Voice the verb is always in Past Participle. So, when you have to change the tense, you have to change the Verb To Be.

Example using the verb "buy": We buy coffee. --> Coffee is bought. We are buying coffee. --> Coffee is being bought. We bought coffee. --> Coffee was bought. We were buying coffee. --> Coffee was being bought. We have bought coffee. --> Coffee has been bought. We will buy coffee. --> Coffee will be bought. We must buy coffee. --> Coffee must be bought.

This format applies to all sentences in passive voice. You just change the verb.
